Smith Statement on Proposed NYSE-Deutsche Börse Merger

Washington, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith (R-Texas) issued the following statement regarding the proposed New York Stock Exchange and Deutsche Börse merger. 

Chairman Smith: “As with any merger of this size and significance, the Justice Department and Congress should diligently review the potential effect on competition. Besides antitrust issues, Deutsche Börse’s bid to acquire the NYSE raises concerns regarding the influence of the NYSE and American investment worldwide, as well as the impact on American jobs. The House Judiciary Committee will continue to follow the proposed merger to ensure that the interests of American investors and workers are protected.”
